About This Book
Under the Moon takes your little one on a spectacular rocket ride through the night sky, all the way to the moon and back. Along the way they will discover moon phases, craters, astronauts, gravity and even an ancient story about a moon rabbit living in a quiet moon palace. The facts are woven gently into beautiful illustrations and simple, memorable language, so children absorb real science simply by falling in love with the story. That is the magic of it.
Before You Read
Before you open the book, step outside together on a clear night if you can and look up at the moon. What shape is it tonight? Is it big and round or just a thin sliver? Let your child study it for a moment and remember what they see. Then snuggle up together and see how many of the things they spot outside appear inside the book. It is a lovely way to connect the story to the real world before you even begin.
While You Read
Take your time on each page and let the wonder settle. When you reach the moon phases, point to each shape together and try naming them: full moon, half moon, crescent. When the astronaut bounces on the moon, stand up and have a gentle bounce together to feel what low gravity might be like. Say the sound words out loud with energy: Wow! Pow! The more you play with the language, the more it sticks. And when you reach the moon rabbit story, let your child imagine what it might be like to live in a quiet moon palace all alone up there.
After You Read
The back of the book is packed with lovely things to do together. There are review questions to revisit what your little one discovered, a match game, a planets counting page, a drawing activity and of course the Moon Explorer Badge to award when you finish. Print it out and present it with a big celebration. They have earned it!
We have also made these free printable activity sheets for you to download and enjoy at home.

Things to Talk About
Some of the most magical conversations happen after the book is closed. You might find yourselves wondering why the moon looks bigger some nights than others, or whether the moon rabbit ever gets lonely up there. Why do astronauts need a special suit to breathe? How long would it really take to fly to the moon in a rocket? Children ask the most brilliant questions when their imagination has been sparked. Just follow where it leads and enjoy every single one.
